I'am planning on getting a black ghost knife fish and was wondering what size of a tan kt o put one in I was planning on putting it in my 40g community wich has angels, a severum, rams, a krib, a pleco, cory catfishes, and irradescent sharks. And I no that the sharks shouldn't be in there but will soon be upgraded to my 100g. Will this work out?

Not likely. Irredescent sharks can get 3ft+ large.

I also don't think your rams, krib and severum will get along well in the long run, and you'll also likely see problems between the severum and angel. What kind of pleco do you have?

Ghost knives are very shy, and can be somewhat difficult to keep. I don't think one will be happy with kribs and rams constantly bothering him, or the plecos stealing all the good hiding places.

I used to own a black ghost knife fish..they can get very large!
Be careful when raising them- as they get bigger they will start taking over the tank and eating any fish smaller than them! They need to eat lots of live food such as feeder guppies and brine shrimp..or frozen food can work out.
If they are well taken care of and well fed they can grow quickly! sometimes up to 8 feet!! (which i read in a fish magazine about this species)

Mine always hid out...From now on, i do not keep rocks with holes in them, becuase i like to see my fish come out! The black ghost knife fish is very shy, and needs a hiding place though, or else it will become stressed out!

However, my brother used to own one, his always hid out and he could never get it out of the rock! It would sometimes come out at night but then quickly dissapear when someone walked by...later on, sadly, it died since it never came out during feeding time!

I recommend you do a lot of research before purchasing this fish! Also, I recommend getting oen of those plastic see-through tubes for it to hide in,..that way you can see it, it can see when its feeding time, and it has a place to hide!

Good Luck! :)
