Please help me! I have recently setup a 20 gallon tank and decided that i wanted to only have one species in the tank. I decided to do guppies and i want to breed them too.
How many guppies would be okay in a 20 Gal.?
How many females/males can be in a 20 gal. if i wish to breed them?

Any advice??

Well careful cuz they'll breed like rabbits ;)
Generally the ratio is 3 females to every male... but once they start breeding you'll be overrun with guppies in no time!
I've had guppies take over a 50 gallon tank... and Endlers are starting to occupy my 90 gallon tank! lol
If you are breeding them I would have only 3 females and 1 male... and let them do their thing... provide hiding places for fry.
Good luck!

I agree with EMS here but I think you might even be safe with 6 females and 2 males and then let nature take its course.
You will want to have plenty of cover for them, such as live plants and drift wood.
I love having Hornwort and Java Fern in my tanks. These plants will give plenty of spaces and areas for the fry to hide. Also the plants will have infusia (small tiny critters) that the fry will eat. This is a great bonus. Also if you want to have an algae eater in your tank, besides your guppies. Yes, they do eat Algae and are very good at it as well. I keep Amano shrimp in my tanks. I do not have to worry about them getting to big to bully the fish and they do a bang up job eating the stuff.

Never use a breeder net or those small breeder tanks. These will cause to many problems and will cause either the death of the female or abortion of fry. And as EMS said, they will breed for you. Remember to do regular water changes, every week. I usually make sure I do one on Saturday Morning for all my tanks.

Tricksterpup- ThanX so much! I really needed to know the names of those "hideout" plants..nobody at petsmart in the fish department knew anything about them yesterday, so i decided to wait-which turned out to be a good thing since you posted! ThanX again, i will write down the names of those plants! -And thanX for the advice about the divider contraption- I used to put my mollies in those to breed (they did look a little stressed from it)..I may just use a tank divider and put the pregnant females in it with hideout plants for the babies below them..that could work!

I think i will take your advice on the 6 females and 2 males...some sites say you can even have 5 females and 3 males!

Unless you are trying to breed for type and doing a control situation. I do not think you will need to worry about removing your fry from the adults. I think they will be fine with adequate cover.
