Ok I thought I had an original idea. But there seem to be articles everywhere on it. I put my livebearers outside in a fish pond for the summer, May-September. It started when I no longer wanted platies in my aquarium (now soft water angels and cardinals). I threw them in the pond along with a mean male dwarf gourami. They all thrived over the summer and my platties had a third generation. -_- Now I have the platties and also mollies. They do much better than staying inside all year and have more babies. The mollies absolutely thrive. They also get a constant supply of free live food. My betta gets a vacation too. He leaves his small aquarium and lives in a large rubber made container outside with a water lily and elodea. My pond wth the mollies and goldfish has no filter, its heavily plants with ovygenators, marginal plants like iris cardinal flower, caladium, then there is a water lily, another floating water lily like plant, duck week, and water hyacynth. The only "filter" I have persay is a sponge filter acting as a prefilter for the fountain. It is sparkling clear with no algae problems even though its in full sun. Its by far esier than an aquarium to maintain. The goldfish stay out in the winter under the ice and the mollies come in. I recommend sending your fish on vacation.
