This little guy (lady)? was sold to me as a bristle nose pleco. Female maybe? Any ideas? She's been very camera shy, but was quite the movie star tonight.

I found this on www.planetcatfish.com bristleface pleco (http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/loricari/pseudanc/47_f.php) What do you think..and does anyone know anything about them?

L182

Looks like my L183 without the white seam.

how come pl*cos are named after L182 and such numbers...?

Biznatch..I see what you mean. I looked at that one, and it was sold to be as a bristlenose pleco, so would fit. Mine looks like the pic of "young female" on the planetcatfish site. I looked at all the other pics and thought noooo. My main reason for trying to find out is to see how big it will get. I bought a bristlenose so I'd have a small one, and the more I looked, the more I thought it didn't look like one.

Tipstylez..in my limited knowledge of the L numbering system is that there is so many variants that they decided to number them instead if giving all names. Maybe someone who knows more will give a better answer.

Nursie, so do you know what it is? Just an L # or does it have a name? It doesn't look like the bristlenose I have, so now I'm curious what you bought!

Thanks, BooHoo...she posed nice for me, that's for sure. She was eating.

Holly...where I got her didn't have the L number posted. What Biznatch has looks like her, for "young female" L182.
SHe was called a "bristlenose pleco", the common name for the number that Biznatch posted is a "starlight bristlenose pleco". I just want to try to be sure she won't get too huge for my tank.

I'm almost 100% sure that's it and it won't get over 4" so you don't have to worry about it getting too big. Both it's body shape and mouth/face shape is identical to mine, yours just lacks the while tip on it's tails. I bought mine when it was a very nice looking 1/2" baby and it's been like 3-4 months now and he's barely reaching a little over an inch. The only difference between males and femals is males get bristles and females don't.

The pic doesn't show it well, but there are light tips on the tail....she's pretty funny tho, she gets in a snit and chases everyone away from the food in "her" place...and they all come right back. They're not very scared.

I'd seen something on a thread about plecos eating meat...do you feed yours meat?

You might want to post over on www.plecofanatics.com, they have a forum dedicated to plec IDs :D

Not meat, but he sure does love shrimp pellets. So it's either that or algae wafers.

Cool...I'll get some. I like to vary my fishies diets so they get good nutrition.

My bristlenose fights with my corys over the algae wafers, and hes still pretty small about 3 inches, maybe 4 :p: silly fish

Where in Peoria did you purchase him? What are your thoughts on that shop?

I'm kinda new to the Peoria area.
