What should I do with my platys?

I have two sunset platys. Both are aged, as they have stopped breeding. I don't know how old they were when I got them... they were fully grown... that was a year ago. The male has a ragged tail. The female has a crooked spine and looks rather gaunt. She just lies on the bottom of the tank on her side, breathing rapidly. I have repeatedly tried to capture her, but she is too quick, even in her weakened state. Both still eat and move around quite a bit. I don't want to medicate if it is just old age.

They are comfortable... in a very heavily planted tank with a bogwood cave and rock cave, thick stem plants to hide in. Should I disturb them, medicate, put them to sleep, or just let them live out their days in peace?

Let them live out their days in peace. It probably wont be much longer anyway.

Since they are old and sound like they are about to die soon, I would just let them live their last few days or weeks in peace. As long as they are not diseased, I think it would be nice if you let them stay in your tank without medication.

It sounds like they were a good pair of fish for you.I would let them pass on there own.
