Anyone have any good ones?? I absolutely HATE the games, but I just saw a really cute idea for something on TV and was looking for others. At the baby shower, everyone had been asked to bring some sort of item to put into a time capsule to be opened on the childs 18th birthday. I thought that was kind of neat :thm:

I'm personally not big on traditional baby showers. I prefer to do a Blessingway...more of a celebration of the mom's right of passage, "blessing" her & baby with wishes for a wonderful birth experience...and with support of the women closest to her, especially the ones who have been through it themselves. The thing I like the best about a Blessingway is that it has an atmosphere of warmth, closeness and affection. It's not about the "stuff" you give and get for baby.
One thing that is done in a blessingway is each guest presents the mom-to-be with a bead/charm to represent their blessing...and the beads are placed on a necklace that can be worn during labour. A necklace/bracelet can be made for baby too...makes a nice keepsake.
There's lots of info online about Blessingways. Here's one site: http://www.preggiepeggy.com/blessingway.htm

Umm. Hmm. Most of the things I know are for games.
You could have everybody bring a small, inexpensive charm and put it on a charm bracelet to give the baby when she's a little older (if it's a girl).
Or, everyone can decorate pieces of 12" square fabric when they show up (puffy paint, paint, etc) and it can be made into a quilt for the baby.
Making t-shirts for the baby using cheapo haines t-shirts. They can put on sayings or hand prints, prayers, etc.
Have everyone bring their own baby pictures. Put them in a box, mix them around and try to guess who is who (not as easy as you might think!).
I'll keep thinking!
EDIT: Craftstores sell these oversized photo mats with a space for a 4 X 6" photo in the center. Break out a black felt tip pen or crayola markers and have everyone write a word of blessing, congratulations, well-wishes or what-have-you and then it can be hung in the baby's room and show how many people care about them....
I was just at one yesterday, so I'll share what they did.
"Mother's Journal for *Insert Name Here*"
...All the mothers at the shower put in some tips and advice for the mother to be. Anyone who wasn't a mother wrote fond memories of their childhood with the mother.
"Bring a Book for the Baby's Library"
...Well, everyone added a book(s) for the baby's library.
A game idea, and this was fun/gross...
They melted bits of candy bars (Name brands), had to be chocolate based, in smeared them in diapers. Numbered the diapers then passed them around. The guests had numbered their papers and had to sniff and examine the melted chocolate to figure out what it was. My table was the only one to get all six right. It was pretty gross looking, they even took a pic of me smelling one of the diapers, but it was fun.
Hope those help a little.

There are few ideas there. A variation on my tshirt idea that I like better is to buy a pack of onsies and hang them on a clothesline throughout the house. People can grab them and decorate them.
I love that onsie idea!

Oh, well, ain't this just so appropriate! :p: ...considering my sister, who I just bent over backwards helping through her wedding, sent me an instant message this afternoon asking if I was near a calendar and could tell her what day I was planning on having her baby shower!! Because, you see, she's got 3 other friends that also want to have showers for her, but she's being generous to let ME have the first pick of the TWO weekends she has offered... She is not due until October 15th!! She was thinking, well, August 13th sounds good! UUUHHHHH :argue: I was thinking September 17th... but NO! That is WAY too late! Nevermind that she had MY baby shower 3 weeks before I was due.... Hey, thanks for the :OT: rant!! ;)
SO! I guess I have to start planning! I haven't been to a baby shower yet that had the really nice ideas described above! I planned to do the melted candy bars in the diapers, and the one where I buy a bunch of small baby related items, hide them under a blanket, then I take the blanket off for 30 seconds and the guests have to memorize as many items as possible. The new Mom gets all the baby items and the winner gets a gift. But I do think i'll add the idea of having everyone bring a small charm or bead for a necklace or bracelet to be worn during labor! How nice will that be!
YAY! I'll be keeping an eye on this thread!

Maybe we should start taking game ideas, just for you  !!! I know some people like them, but I just can't stand them, so I figure its my shower, so I'm putting my foot down :D !
I was just at a baby shower sunday and the one game they played was to pass around jars of baby food and you had to guess what was in them

I like SOME games, but I went to a baby shower about a month ago, where I swear, they played EVERY game in the book, including Pin the Pickle on the Baby... since she's having a boy. Once the party entered it's THIRD hour, the grandma finally got up and said "Ok, that's enough games! Lets open the gifts, eat the cake and get OUT of here!" Everyone was like THANK GOD! It was going on FOREVER!
I like games, but maybe 3 or 4 of them, not 10 of them!

heres a cute one from one i just attended ...you hand out the tiny clothes pins from the baby decorations shower isle every one gets one ...when ever someone crosses their legs you can steal theres as many as they have claimed at the end of the games who ever has the most clothes pins gets the prize....and then theres baby shower bingo ..every one gets a blank bingo board and fills it in with things the mother will get ,,,who ever gets bingo first gets the prize /...and then theres the missing nursey rhyme lines ...they have to finish the nursery rhymes ...but i have to say the diaper one was gross ...i would skip that ...i hated it! it as absolutly gross the only good part was watching people i dont like sniff diapers ,,,hahahahaha
