Hi all, I just got my 1st aquarium a few days ago and have never had one before. My friend is moving and he gave me his whole reef tank set up, a 55 gallon tank/20 gallon sump complete with 4 VHO's, protein skimmer, an assortment of powerheads and chemicals. Although I'm a noob, I have been combing the net for info, talking to the local aquarium store guys and spending hours at the bookstore reading everything related to my new interest. I have been wanting to do an aquarium for awhile, especially a reef tank, but planned a few more years first to study up and slowly accumulate pieces. Things seem to be moving a little faster than I planned and I need mentoring, so here I am.

Being a student I really don't have much money right now, but that is ok--more time to learn stuff. I would love to cast my own base rock like the folks at GARF did, so that should occupy me for a couple of months. Any tips you guys want to share with me would be appreciated, otherwise I will see you around the forum.

Wow, sounds like you got dumped in the saltwater the same way I did!
I am caring for an adopted tank-my stepson spent a year in Spain-he's back, but hasn't had the chance to come get the tank yet...

Even if you aren't starting a brand new tank, the sticky notes in the newbie forum are great reading. There is also an article section that gives a lot of info on various subjects.
If you have any specific questions, please ask!

oh, yeah, and...
