I was hoping to start a list of all the aquariums around the country (world). Or even zoos, if they have a noteworthy aquarium building. It would be nice to know where they are in order to visit if any of us are ever in the area

Dallas World Aquarium is pretty cool, if not the best in the nation (and it isn't, just the only real answer we have to places like Shedd here in Dallas).

Doubtful. Well, not in the US anyway.

I love the Vancouver Aquarium. The beluga whale exhibit is my favourite. Plus the aquarium is in Stanley Park (lots to see and do there...walking the seawall is great...you may even catch a glimpse of a seal or two in the water.)
The Calgary Zoo is nice too, they have a very nice, new gorilla exhibit...well designed building/interior space, plus outdoor habitat. And they have a great outdoor play area for kids.
Oops, guess I should mention the Calgary Zoo doesn't have an aquarium, so it doesn't really fit into your list. :)

..just south of Wilmington/Carolina Beach area. About a 2 hr drive from Raleigh and about a 45 min drive north from Riply's Aquarium.
