My boyfriend and I want to get a new fish, but one that is dofferent from what we have already-a dojo loach, giant danios, mollies, swordtails, chinese algae eaters, a guppy, a frog and a ghost shrimp.
Mine are my baby mollies-they all (5) swim together and beg me to feed them at the front of the tank and give me little kisses when I stick my finger in.
My boyfriend's is our Dojo loachbecause he has such a strong personality and gives big, giant kisses that you can really feel and even hear if he is on the surface of the water

Whos kissing who here!!??
My fav fish is my black ghost knife fish. They swim in the most unusual and perplexing fashion, and juviniles dont cost too much.
Of course 20" specimins arent uncommon in an aquaria, and certainly couldnt be trusted with the fish you already have.

My favorite fish is the clown loach - great character, great fun to watch - I get them when they are young (I have 6 one inch ones now in my 72 gallon) and they are really entertaining

My favorite would have to be bar none, the black ghost knifefish.
Mine is soooo tame and sweet. He lounges and lays around all day and then when feeding time comes, he's always at the same plce, ready to take the food right from my hand:D

Yes, Clown loaches "click". Many people have been confused to hear strange clicking noises or sounds of someone tapping on the glass only to discover its clown loaches. I have a black tip shark that also makes a clicking sound similer to the loaches when he eats algea waffers. For the shark I believe its the rasping on the wafer or knocking it next to glass but sometimes I
wonder if he learned loachese!

puffers, definately. the way their little eyes move around gives them a more intellegent look than most fish.
Oh geez, only one.
I can't do it. My favorites are: (1) fantail GF -- simple and basic I know, but they are active, hardy, beautiful -- (2) Black Tailed Red Shark -- elegant, mine have been peaceful, and probably the best swimmers I've ever had in my tanks-- (3) checker barbs -- delightful fish, and the more you look at them, the prettier they get. I've had all of these, but the fish I'm most looking forward to getting are mudskippers. I've found a store relatively close to me that has them on a regular basis...

Wow.... I've had so many types of fish that it's hard to pick just one....especially if you're looking for tank suggestions (which by now, most of you have realized I raise tankbusters and resell them... so I stink at picking little fish...)
My fave of all time would have to be the African Flag Knifefish (in the same family as BGK's, but a lot more rare and meaner...), but they're not a good candidate for anyone without a big budget and lots of free time to spend cleaning...
I would guess my favorite in the "attainable" category would have to be cory cats, though. They've got lots of spunk. I've tried to have them in every tank I've had (with the exception of a few mean grow-outs like barracuda or AFK's.... they wouldn't stay too long with them...)

Got to vote for my 3 Yo-Yos. Especially when they make that smacking sound when they attack the air bubbles on the surface of the water. Two of them are taking bloodworm from my fingers now too!

I like all my fish equally...I dont really have any favorites. But I guess if I had to get rid of all of them but one, it would be my single male angelfish. Had him a long time..so it's more a sentimental thing I guess. He's a big guy too...about 6-6 1/2" long and 8" tall...big bodied and thick. He had a mate at one time, but his sexual appetite did her in.

My 2 favorite fish are my one-eyed Mollie and my Betta "Mysteria". The Mollie is just plain an individual and my betta loves to flirt with me. He hates my boyfriend though. Mysteria has even puffed up and threatened him some times.

my first fish and prbly a lot of other people too, my 10" red tiger oscar.
known for their obvious personalites towards thier owner. i hand feed mine beefheart and can "pet" him while doing gravel cleaning.
When he gets mad he goes from black/red to black/red with white strips down his back and whole stomach. i dunno he's a weirdo:rolleyes:
when anyone besides me gets near the tank he gets restless, it's fun to dare friends to stick they're hand in there (no bites yet) :p
although he bit my mom's nose when she was leaning over the tank when i first got him.
always wanted a pair of peacock bass though

my favorite would have to be the green spotted puffer because of it's inquisitive nature, and it's energy. not to mention he eats like a pothead!

My favorite is my rainbow shark. He's jet-black with bright red fins. Gorgeous!
Cories, gouramis, rainbow sharks I would have to say. I am on the verge of keeping some fancy goldfish and I'm sure they will be on the list as well!

Ditto on the German Blues. Without a doubt my favorite fish. Very colorful and fun to watch. Especially when the spar with each other. Nobody ever gets hurt, but it is fun to wacth their dorsal fins snap up and the pectorals go down and attack and retreat at each other.
Great stuff!

Tiger Shovelnose Catfish and Oscars.
I don't wanna pick one.
I also like loaches. Clowns and Khulis...

Red Belly Piranha. They change looks as they get older as well as personality. Mine is 11 years old and I will probably cry why he dies of old age because I grew up with him(or her). Second favorite is cory cats, they keep so busy and we take them for granted because they are so darn hardy and long lived asking very little to be content and happy.

Microgeophagus altospinosa and Julidochromis marlieri. Very fun smaller cichlids. I also like my Synodontis eupterus' alot. They're the asses of the aquarium world. I've never seen fish like this that would just go around picking fights with other fish much larger than themselves, and win!

A year ago, I would've answered an Oscar since that is what I had years ago.
But now, I will go with a Betta. I seem to have a huge success with them and suddenly have an office full of Bettas each in his own 2 gallon tank! There were some employees where I work who had bought them with the jar and plant and either got tired of them or couldn't keep them alive, so I took them all in and gave them better homes than those stupid little jars.
I have another 3 at home that I felt obligated to rescue from Walmart. I think one will make it for sure, but the other two are still iffy.
So BETTA is my answer! They are so beautiful, so graceful and full of personality!

Cichlid people often talk them down, but, for a 10g, the fish with the most personality would have to be a betta. I love spending time with my 10g in my dorm because "Mo" always comes to greet me, and sometimes to be "pet" like a cat (well, much less vigorously, of course).
I gotta respect my cleaner team, though, my four Cories are hard workers, and they even do the job of Plecos with much less poop. (Today, they started eating the algae from my plastic plants.) My Oto (I had three, but "Methuselah" is the only one who hasn't died in the four months I've had them.) is constantly doing the Plec thing, and I have yet to have an algae outbreak since he and his two "sibs" enterred my tank.
All in all, I'd have to say that these are my favorite fish, especially since this is my first tank in probably 15 years.

I'd have to say my Midas and Jaguar Cichlids. There's nothing like having a fish chase you from end to end of the tank or attack a plastic toy or try to bite you in the dark when you walk by the tank.
Akasha(Jaguar) is always showing me who's boss. She chases, attacks the glass, tries to bite or body slap my head but as soon as I put my hand in the tank, it's all love and petting. I even rub her little fishy chin. :)
Sweetie(Midas) loves to chase, bite, body slap everything(including my arm and the vacuum), attack and chase his fish toys, give me kisses in the morning and bite anyone if they walk by the tank(it's really creepy when you go downstairs in the morning before turning any lights on and you hear this loud SCHNAP against the glass as you walk by).
Sweetie also lets me pet him but his beady eyes are forever on your fingers, just waiting. ;)
I really like my tiretrack eels lately too. Their big eyes are adorable.

It has to be an ORNATE BICHIR sly georgeous.ravenous and quite prehistoric looking.
dang...it's so hard to pick just one fish.
hmm...I'd have to say Marble Angelfish. I used to have a school of five (I got them when they were the size of dimes). They all grew up together and got along really well. They were getting a bit too big for the tank (30 gallon) so I traded them into the lfs.
I also LOVE all of the different types of fancy goldfish....especially Panda Orandas *drools*

My Ex used to keep lots of Bettas.
The most character I have seen in a fish.
Each one has a distinct personality and I never would
have thought I would say this about fish, but
they are SMART (for a fish).
Orandas are beautiful but they are sad mutants
I no longer keep them :(
I am in love with Discus now, they seem to have
a lot of curiosity too. I can watch them forever at
a fish store.

Do you no longer keep them just b/c they are selective bred?

I have lot's of favorite fish. If I had to give all my fish away but one, I would probably keep my 8" wild oscar. He has so much personality!!! He will attack everyone in the area of his tank except me! I tought him to jump through a loop that I hold over his tank. It's awsome!!
My kribs would definitly follow closly in second, with their great colors and ease of keeping.
