Hi all...Has anybody ever heard of Monk Tetra's? Maybe they go by a different common name? My LFS has a tank of them and I really like them. They get to be about 3" long according to the LFS.
Thanks!
Chad
Wulfy,
Thanks for the reply but looking at a picture of the redeye, it's not even close. The Monk is much darker gray(not silver) and doesn't have the red eye. Thanks though!
Pretty good guess though, Wulfy, because in the limited range of petshop fishes "Monk Tetra" always refers to Moenkhausia sanctaefilomenae. Often fishes in the lfs will be bleached out and silvery, Chad: I just bought some Badis ruber yesterday, and they weren't even a hint ruber, just silver and black.
If you're interested, Chad, a www.google.com word search on the grown-up name, correctly spelled, will give you lots of information on "Monk Tetras"
Wulfy, I hope I didn't offend...didn't mean to! The picture I saw though just didn't look like the ones I was seeing. I need to go check with the LFS store to make sure. The black band on the tail is the same so it could very well be.
Well, as usual I was wrong...I called my lfs and they said another name for the monk tetra is the red-eye tetra. Wulfy, nice job! I just didn't think it looked like the ones I saw at the store. Weird.
