I am considering converting my 55 gallon planted tank to a full cichlid setup.... I am just so tired of the high maintnence of the plants and fighting algae..

I see the gorgeous colors of cichlids and the tanks that I want it SOoooo bad....

Any rate. I want to do the florida crushed coral substrate, but am unsure on how much I could do or rather NEED?

I can buy it either in a 40lb bag and a 15lb bag. Would 40 lbs be enough for a 55 gallon or should I buy one of both. SO I have 55 lbs....

I have one other question.. I see that rock that alot of people use that has holes everyhwere... What are they called and what is the best (PRICED) place to either order it or buy it?

Thanks for the info and help....

hey spankey, do you mean Rift Lake (African) cichlids or Central American cichlids?

I think spankey is talking about africans. 40lbs of crushed coral would be plenty. The rock with lots of holes is called texas holey rock or limestone. I buy mine at the lfs at $2 a lb. It doesn't have as big of holes as some that I have seen but it is the only texas holey rock I can find in michigan. I have read that in texas you can get it a quarry for about $0.10 a lb.

African gang.....LOL

Thanks for the info. I thought 40lbs would be enough... And by the way could anyone in texas send me some holy rock...LOL

Thanks gain...
