They can. Can't breed with a molly or guppy but swordtails and platies can interbreed.

yes they can just its not commonly done for some reason. i wanted 2 try it just they wont.

Well that happens.. but eventually if you do things right, you will find a male that will mate with a female. Heck i have a swordtail that is constantly trying to mate with a Large guppy female. So give it time, if you have the space try it in a 10 -15 gallon long. And keep them by themselves with plenty of plants. It may happen, but you may eventually have to try different females with your male and vice versa for this to work, but it will eventually.
