10 gallon just cracked

i was putting my two female guppies into a 10 gallon to give birth and the jar they were in fell and cracked the aquarium. i didnt realise it until a minute ago after the fish being in there for a couple hours. the guppies are back in the 5 gallon and i am throwing the 10 gallon away. its a bummer because i was gonna get some rams soon. oh well now maybe my mom will let me get my 55 i want to get. :eek:

anyone have any ideas on what i can do with the females so the babies will live i really want to raise some of them

either net the fry after they hatch and put them in a breeding net, or get a bunch of java moss and let it float at the top of your tank. they'll go to the top and hide in it soon after birth

what does java moss look like?

well, it's. . mosslike, i guess. kind of feathery looking because it has lots of tendrils, and if it's floating loose on top instead of tied down it makes a ton of perfect hiding spots for fry. a yahoo image search can give you a better idea.

And Dont throw the 10 away, how cracked is it, was it bare bottom to be able to be cracked by a jar? is it siliconable? maybe if you re-inforce the bottom with a retainer bar. but that'd be expensive buying a new one would be easier.

You could buy a couple of breeder nets and keep them in your other tank.

if you have the rest of the acsessories ...a ten gallon tank is like 9.84 at walmart ...t is just the tank so everything you had for the previous will have to be used but hey it beats having to rebuy the whole set up!

keep your eye out for used tanks, especially on ebay, it seems like everyone is trying to sell fish tanks right now.

well alls it was was a 10 gallon with hood and bubble bar temporarily so the only thing i have is the hood and bubble bar
