This is a unsual (maybe dumb) question. What effects can a dead fish (about 1 inch big) have in my 20 gal tank? I'm saking this because I spoted the dead fishy so I tried to get but I went in an ureachable part of a big decoration that I have in my tank, and I dont want to remove the big thing and destroy my set up.

it will make your amonia go up, you really can't leave a dead fish to rot in your tank. With a tank that small, it can lead to problems, plus if there is nothing to eat it, thats just gross!!! You may want to reconsider your set up if it so complicated that you can't do maintenance when needed. How will you gravel vac in that area?

A dead one inch fish in a twenty gallon can raise the ammonia and other toxin levels, but if you do frequent water changes, then I think you might be able to let it stay in there if you really don't want to undo your setup to get it out. I would also reccomend getting it out, as that is the safest route.

removing detritus

If you have to remove it by hand, remember to do it during a water change. That way there will be less water to displace when you stick your hand in there. Seems simple but I learned this one the hard way. :-)

Yes but my problem is that I have a big decoration (driftwood alike) with holes and the dead fish went all the way down inside one of the "legs". I guess I'll have to re do everything, or maybe do a lot of water changes and take the risk. Thanks for your replies
