Sounds kind of strange, do a search on google or ask.com for fish diseases and see if you can't find some pictures. Nothing really jumps out at me by the description. Maybe septicemia? Try that. It is also possible that the pleco brought in the disease, is it still alive?

Unfortunately, they were probably very ill fish (things you just couldn't see) b/c there growth was stunted from being in a small tank for so long. 2 goldfish should really have 30+ gallons. Sounds like time just caught up with them in the situation. most plecos need at least that, common plecos can get almost 2 feet long  !! If you decide to get some more fish for the tank, do a little research, there are tons of fish that will fit happily in a 10g tank. Good luck, sorry about the goldfish

well i do have to admit they were actually feeder goldfish... i was little when i got them so i thought they were real goldfish. the biggest one was only like 2 cm long and the other only 1 cm long...

They can still get big, but being feeder goldfish they were probably even more prone to problems

Well then how did they make it from b.c. to a.b.?

I too have "feeder goldfish". They started in a two gallon tank and now at four years of age are in a fifty five gallon and my largest is about nine inches long from tail fin to mouth.....they do get huge. A ten gallon was probably way too small....I plan on moving mine to a small outdoor pond they're so big, so I can't imagine having them in a ten gallon when they're six!!!!!!! Also have plecos in all my tanks and they are fine. The one with my goldfish started out as a baby too and he is also around nine inches long. He started out about three or four inches three years ago. You're tank might have just gotten too dirty with the big fish and caused bacteria and fungus to inhabite the tank. Gold fish to tend to be on the dirty side.
