I have 3 platy fry in a breeding net, which I assume is not the ideal set up for them but they are still pretty small. Could that be why they are growing so slowly? They've been in there for at least a month, with very little change. I normally make no attempt to save them (I never even see them) but I found them while switching to a new tank. Now that I have them, I feel bad just letting them go in the tank where they are probably still small enough to be eaten, but I REALLY don't want to set up a new tank for them. Should I just leave them for a while still and hope they'll be alright? Feed them more often? (been giving crushed shrimp pellets and flakes 1-2x a day, hanging in a 180g tank)

Holly, I was feeding mine 3x a day while they were in the breeder net. Crushed flakes frozen brine shrimp and frozen bloodworms. They were growing but then I decided to just let them go in the tank after about 4 weeks. Since I released them they have grown a lot quicker. None of them were eaten by the bigger fish as I have quite a few plants and hiding spots. At first the other fish would chase them but now they don't bother them at all.

The more room, the faster they grow. I just leave mine in with the parents. They grow quickly. My molly fry are three weeks old and about a half inch.

I will just feel guilty if they disappear  . Its like now that I've seen them I'm slightly attached (but I guess not enough to give them their own tank  ). I might get a couple more plants in the tank and let them lose. The 3 that I have currently are "survivors", the mother disappeared (literally) many many months ago. I always reasoned that if they were smart/quick enough to survive they deserved a spot in the tank :)

What kinds of fish do you have in the aquarium?

blackskirt, serpae, and neon tetras, bala sharks, clown loaches, a rainbow shark, corys and a couple of plecos
it could possibly be the water conditions, as a guess... but maybe all you need to do is get more hiding places, let em go, and hope... make sure you still put food small enough for them in.

Waters good, I'm sure I could do more water changes if I really wanted to help, but I just thought they would be bigger by now :(
Fry grow with lots of clean fresh water and plenty of food. The water in tank may be good as far as parameters go...but it isn't the same as "fresh"... frequent water changes and plenty to eat will help them grow.
