There's a guy around by the name of FlyFLy that has avery handsome pit bull. And people think boxers are pits half the time. We should have s support group.

Its funny I was actually going to comment on the dog too, and I thought, well, I hope I don't turn this into a debate... Anyhow is the one on the avatar yours? Or just a pic? The pics you have posted are very cute :thm: !!! I have a boxer, and I know what you mean about people thinking they are mean, I can't tell you how many times people ask me "oh, those are mean dogs aren't they?" Boxers are probably among the most docile dogs I've ever seen!! Sometimes the pizza guy will not get out of the car in my driveway b/c he thinks she might jump the fence  . I have to say, she does sound vicious when she barks though :D

I totally agree that pits have a bad rap :mad2: . I hope to own one someday just to prove everyone wrong (and b/c I love animals and think they are beautiful dogs, plus as a bonus, I'll never be afraid to go out late at night by myself). Unfortunately I have a cousin who just bought one and is not treating it properly and I fear the worst for it. He's not making it mean, but he is neglecting it, not giving it any obedience training, and is a first time dog owner :mad2: . I think she will end up at the pound where in michigan it is law to euthanize any pits that come in, regardless of temperment :(

Ok, rant/opinionating over.... WELCOME BACK :D ~notice the excessive smiley use

No, I dont own him. He used to belong to a breeder friend of mine. I do own a few of his pups though, as I breed APBTs. He is 135lbs and actually just sold to a guy in Florida for $65000 US.

Yes I dont recommend Pittys to anybody as their first dogs. And not to sound mean but the dog should be taken away from your cousin. Pit Bulls need attention, about 100 times the amount of attention than other dogs. They need to be walked everyday they need to be socialized. If you cannot do this you should not own a pit bull. I personally took 6 months off work when I got my "Pet" pitty, and spent everyday with her. She was still a pain in the butt. They are very hard dogs to own and nobody should own them if they dont have experience with other large breeds.

I would want mine to look just like the avatar :p: , if I were rich I might just go make an offer!! LOL!!! I agree with you 100% about the cousin. It makes me angry. Hes about 22 and just moved into a house, so I'm sure he got it as wanting a pet/status symbol/protection. His family talk about it all the time b/c they think he was crazy for getting a "mean" dog. I've tried to educate them till I'm blue in the face, but you still get that "yeah... but" Oh well, what can you do

Boxers are high maintence too. You have to work with them and interact with them all the time. And they are demanding of attention. Duke isn't..he'll go lay down and nap. He tends to get depressed and withdraw if not engaged. Or he will get crankey and chase Chloe out of the room. Chloe on the other had is an attention sponge. If she wants you, she will "talk" to you and shove her muzzle into your side until she has it. So we obviously have to fuss over her, and be sure he gets enough.
She is capable of entertaining herself when she wants. She will sit and watch the neighbors kids play for hours. She will run around the back yard and play with her toys, and will bounce balls, etc and catch them. and play with rocks. What a weirdo!!

The yeah buts always come. Until somebody knows the animals from experience they dont understand. An example is I had my female tied to one of those big blue trampolines you can get for your back yard(about 300lbs) And I asked my friend if he wanted to see something cool. So I called her, she instantly started barking and growling and lowered right to the ground and pulled this trampoline probably close to 100 feet across the backyard like it was nothin, but was very loud and vocal lots of growling while she was doing it. He instatly shot up the stairs onto the balcony and started yelling and screaming that my dog was vicious and phsycotic. I then tried to explain to him that Pit Buls just have a different way of doing things. They will do whatever their owner tells them to do no-matter how hard or painful it is. They just have that kinda of drive and determination. He still to this day is scared of my dog. This is the downfall to owning this breed. Even when I explain to him that there are on average 300 dog bites/attacks a year in B.C. and Pit-bulls account for less than 1% of them he is still more afraid of them than any other dog. He so happens to own a Golden Lab, I showed him the stats that they account for over 6% of dog bites, and he still thinks Pittys are more dangerous. Jack Russel Terriers account for nearly half of last years 324 dog bites and they actually killed a kid. He still think pittys are more dangerous. The fact is that Pit Bulls are less likely to bite or attack than most dogs, BUT if and when they do they have the ability to do more damage than any other dog, and that is where the problem comes in. And if not trained properly they are very aggressive towards strangers, which in my opinion is somewhat of a good thing, they are guard dogs after all.

P.S. my female only weighed about 60lbs at the time she pulled the trampoline.

good point labont. If chihuahas (I have no idea how to spell that :help: ) and jack russells were larger dogs they would probably be outlawed. I have a JRT and she can be a little devil... Its funny when I first met my neighbors, they asked if they could pet my dogs. I told them that the boxer and the border collie were fine, but to never pet the JR :o !!! Shes not a "mean" dog, but she has her own mind and shes not very fond of kids or strangers. I hope she'll change her mind about kids, since I have my first on the way in December. I always joke that I would get rid of the baby before I would get rid of my dogs

Im new the forum today just wanted to say beautiful dog. Nice to see someone who feels passionate about there dogs like i do. I own two pits and i have found that mine think there cats and lay on the back of the couch instead of on it. i figured my first one was just alittle strange then i bought one from absolute kennels in florida and she is also just as wierd so must be a funny trait either that or my first dog rubbed of on her. Well any ways keep up the good work.:)

considering the fact that we've had a couple of passionate debates about pits and other dogs that could be deemed as dangerous recently, I'm not posting to start any arguments. I will say though that my whole point when posting on the other threads was something that labont just said. The chances of them causing more damage when they bite is higher. One reason is just brute strength. I mean, look at those muscles. There is no doubt in my mind that more bites come from other dog breeds, but how many of those are "fear biters" who bite and run? Most of your little dogs can be very mean and aggressive and I'm not saying that they can't cause damage, however it is much more difficult because they and their mouths are so tiny. Now about JRT's, my aunt raises them and she used to be the club secretary. Her three females have to stay separated at all times. Twice, two of them have gotten out and at each other and had to go to the vet to have their throats sewn back up. Only one or two of her dogs are allowed around her child and always supervised one at a time. Her dogs have been well trained, socialized, and extremely well taken care of. She only sells puppies to people who meet certain criteria, sign a contract, and agree to spay or neuter the animal. These are still really aggressive dogs that need an owner who can handle them. Unfortunately, unless you are a good breeder, you don't get to chose who gets to own a dominating breed of dog and so people are going to continue to get dogs that they can't handle and bad things are going to keep happening. There are lots of dogs that I personally wouldn't have simply because I'm not sure that I'm equipped to handle them. I had a dobie once and he was so sweet. He was never aggressive towards my son, but he would not listen to him. I felt like if he would not submit to my child then he would always be a risk so I found him a new home. Maybe that was overkill but I don't want to take that chance. That doesn't mean that I hate dobermans, he was great. For me, it's the same way with pit bulls and some other breeds. It's not that I hate the dog, I don't know anything about Joe Shmoe walking down the street with his pit. I know your dog will behave, but I don't know if his dog will. Sorry for the long post and I hope that I didn't start another pit/anti-pit argument I just figured I'd put in my two cents. Holly, you might want to talk to someone about how to prepare your JRT for the baby if you haven't already. Someone who knows about that stuff will have some good ideas, but I don't know if they'll work or not. :hi:

Thanks ya`ll, and Larissa, its cool. I respect everybodies opinions, I just try to educate people who seem to base an opinion on reputation and rumour as opposed to fact. Your opinion is completely just and you are completely entitled to it. I also appreciate that you shared it.
