Oh, then the betta should be fine. Just make sure the betta can't fit in his mouth.

how big is the tank they will be in for that week, if to small they might fight, as long as they have room to get away from each other.

remember if you get it home and there not liking each other you can always stick a divider in it for the time being

If you will be moving the oscar soon anyway, its best to just wait another week and not take any chances, then you don't have to worry about it :)

Just put the Betta in a large jar or a vase for the week. This way you do not have to worry about it. Betta will do fine for a week in a smaller container. It will be the Taj Mahal to him compared to the tiny cups that they live in at the stores.

Lol ya those poor bettas in the little cups u always see them at the bottom of they're so called "home"
 I put my Betta in a tank with two garamis and a butterfly fish and he vaporized overnight the first night. Not a trace anywhere. I personally wouldn't and just do what other say. Put him in a vase for a week.
thats because your gouramis killed him.... you should never put bettas with gouramis. or butterfly fish for that matter...

Definetly either hold off getting the betta until you can move the oscar into a bigger tank, or put the betta in a vase or small 1 or 2 gallon aquarium. You can get a nice 1 gallon tank for $7, and it could be a temporary home for your betta until the 10 gallon is vacant.

I think i'll do that do bettas need a heated home?

I guess they don't need it (I think I've read they tolerate a range of temps. better than some other fish), but it is really best, plus it will help keep the temp. constant, which is very important

They do best in water temps of 80ish, so yes heated. Mixing the oscar and betta is just a bad idea to begin with. Don't do it. I hope your getting a 75 for that oscar, its really what they need as adults. 55s don't really cut it, they aren't wide enough.
