They are a cichlid. They're really cute. I want some bad. They're supposed to be hard to keep. Look them up.

They are cichlids. I have two in a 29 gallon with various other community fish and they have no problems with agression.

Look for German bred Rams. The Asian ones don't seem to have the intense color of the German's. You pay more for the German, but I think it is worth it. IMHO:)

they're not really hard to keep. the main problem is that some lfs stock rams that arent very hardy. just poor genetics. so they can be sensitive to water quality. i've had luck with finding rams that were bred and raised locally. usually someone gives their fry to the lfs, instead of the rams having to go through the stress of being shipped.
they are a dwarf cichlid. one of the more peaceful cichlids. they do well in a peaceful community. but they can be territorial, especially when they're breeding. but they usually will just chase the other fish without inflicting harm.

Avoid LFS stock, they are generally Asian bred, very weak fish. Try to get either Wilds or European bred fish. Look around aquabid for some. The two biggest factors with keeping German blue rams is Water quality, frequent water changes, and very warm water, 82 degrees as a minimum. Try keep a single male/female pair in tanks less than 55gals.

Here's a pic of my breeding pair of german blue rams....the female has the rosey belly....they get about 3 inches long when fully grown.

My local lfs don’t like to keep dwarf cichlids, I always have luck :( but I’m happy with my molly and guppies :). :dive:

Not to claim to be an expert, but I recently bought 3 German Rams, and they seem to be doing great in a 76 degree tank. Very active, all eating, a little agression between each other, but they leave all the other fish alone (Rasboras, Corys and Ottos.) I am hoping the male will pick a female and pair up soon so the other can go back to the fish store. Beautiful fish, I like them much more than the Gouramis that preceded them.

Nataku,

Can you share some experience with Aquabid. How do you know what you are getting? It seems that anyone can get an account and put fish on the site. How do you know if the fish are Euro or Asian other than the seller saying so.

Thanks in advance for your insight.
