about a week ago i got some ramshorn snails, and then my boyfriend brought me a couple of very small apple snails. i know they breed easily, really i do, but already? two clutches from the rh's in a week, and two from the apples in about 3 days. i think the one adult ramshorn i had was just so happy to get some company she can't control her. . umm. . natural instincts. they're like rabbits. . . . slimy, egg-laying water rabbits.

It shouldn't become out of control as long as everything else is under control.

Meaning the tank is not overstocked, no overfeeding, regular gravel vacuuming. I personally LOVE snails. They keep things clean and it's something different to watch in my tank. I love having all different species. Gotta get me some cool Shrimp now. My Ghost shrimp are just not interesting enough.

The 6gal is WAY to small for that moor. Your problem is water quality and the tank being dirty. If you keep the tank clean, the snails will have nothing to feed off and will not reproduce. Step up your water changes, especially in the moor tank, a 50% water change per week as a minimum. Syphon off any debris, reduce the amount you feed, and clean the filter material in tank water each week.

this is my snail tank. i have a special place in my heart for them, i'm just not sure if that special place is big enough for all of them and their eggs just yet. i know that for the moor the tank is too small. actually i tried to take him back to the LFS, and the guy reassured me that he'll be okay in there for a while. my new tank will be all set in a month or so, so the moor will get a bigger place to live.

i do a daily change of 1/12 or 1/6, depending on how lazy I'm feeling.
