Ammonia in Tap Water

Howdy!
I wanted to hear your feedback about how to treat/elminate ammonia in tap water. It probably comes from Chloramine (sp?). When I test the water for ammonia it comes out no more than 2 ppm.

Would love to know what the best and easiest way to do this.

You are correct, it indicates dhloramine use to disinfect the water. Your utility can confirm this for you.

Use an agent which breaks the chlorine-ammonia bond and detoxifies/neutralizes both the freed chlorine and the freed ammonia. If the bottle does not say specically that it neuralizes the ammonia, it probably does not and is not suitable for your use. I use Seachem's Prime.

Does it mean that every time I check my water, it would be around 2 ppm for most of the time? :huh:

Now I won't worry if my test register 2ppm for ammonia since I know that the fish are now safe from ammonia. I'll add some more fish tomorrow. :clap:

No, every time you check your tank water, you want to see 0 ppm ammonia, 0 ppm nitrite and some level of nitrate. A fully established tank will consume the level of ammonia in your tap water as well as the ammonia produced by your fish, plus the resulting nitrite.

It make sense now. That's what I needed to know. Urm, I'll keep checking the water parameters then.
oh btw, how do you clean your test tubes? :cool:
