you know that psudeo-fancy steakhouse Chedder's? Im not sure how far the franchise reaches but we have about 3 in my area. Each of them here has a very large cichlid tank.
Well I always thought that they were horrifically overstocked. Having about 40-50 extra large cichlids (5+ inches) in the tank. I guess i would have to estimate it at about 250-350 gallon though. Well i was walking by after dinner yesterday and i noticed a few pairs were doing the guarding behavior(moving pebbles, biting passersby etc). a bright blue stripy 6 inch pair, A yellow 4-5 inch, and a convict pair i think.
Well what do you know. they had babies. lots of them. there were about 3-4 age groups of convicts in there, the blue one had a brood of about 1/4" fry. I didn't see anything in the yellow one's nest yet. I wonder what they feed those fish. We had to hatch brine shrimp to feed them when we were playing cichlid about 10 yrs ago.
I was always thinking that tank was hugely overstocked, but if there are breeding they must be happy enough in there.
oh they also have about a 2 ft pleco in there also. :)
i might have to stalk that place when they go out of business or remodel.. I can probably grab the tank and setup for practically free. hmm business is good so it wont be soon. Good, i need to get out of this economy appartment and buy a house to fit it first )
I got a fletcher glass/mat/plastic cutter for picture framing from local lowes (usually about $3000) for a little under $100 when they moved.
