There's a sticky in the Topics forum that explains it. Simply put, though, go with the advanced post, and scroll down--there's a block titled "Attachments"--browse to the file on your computer, and upload it. It will appear as a link within the thread (there are size limitations, so be prepared to re-size the image). Or, you can host the image on another website and link to it: [ img ] http://www.images.to.share [ /img ], no spaces between the text and it will actually show the pic. But--courtesy--if it's not your pic, or your site, make sure it's okay to link to the image so you're not burning someone else's bandwidth and making them unhappy.
