First of all, can I get some information on cycling, how long it takes, how to make it go faster, etc. for my next tank? I want it to go a little smoother than this round.

Second, what's the big difference between a 29gal and a 30gal as far as stocking/etc. goes?

Lots of threads covering cycling. Fishless is about as smooth and simple as it gets.

Compare the surface area--the larger the surface area, the more room for gas exhange you will have. Most 29's are tall and skinny, offering less surface area for the volume, meaning less fish, and more limited space at each zone (vertical space increases, but horizontal decreases). Also, tall, skinny tanks tend to be more challenging to aquascape and more challenging to light properly for plants.

Thanks, I'll be going with a 30 then, I think. Gunna use it for brackish, actually, but was just curious, I haven't paid attention to that size range much at the store.

Do you have a used filter that you can put on the new tank...this is the best way to cycle a tank. Used substrate will help as well.
