i heard that you could keep a pair of german rams in a ten gal. is this okay? also what kind of substrate and water parameters would be okay for them. any sites with info on them would be greatly appreciated! :dance2:

You can, but you better make sure they are a very well bonded pair otherwise you run the risk of them kicking the crap out of each other with no notice. A much better choice would be a 20L, gives them more room and more places to go if they start to squabble.

I recently put my pair in a 10g and they have spawned and the eggs have hatched. But... like nataku said, they better be paired off pretty strongly, mine were together forever before I did that in a 75g and the person I got them from had them together for a while.

uh, Im sure he means 20 gallon long as opposed to 20 liter

I breed my 2.75" Rams in 5 gallon tanks. Yes they are generaly well bonded pairs. My gosh though a well planted ten gallon tank, not a bare bottom is fine for a pair. THier natural habitat is 86 f plus for breeding pH 5.5 - 6.5 and less then 60 us/cm or fairly soft water. These days they will even ssspawn in hard water. I raise mine in hard water and I see them pair off and lay eggs in that water all the time so I think they are pretty flexable these days. Good luck

I keep my ram pair in the 10 gal with live plant, and clumps of java moss (for raising babies) and some cave ornaments. Even this well-bonded pair would suddenly fight sometimes, and the plants and caves do help the female to hide or get out of the way until the male "cool off"...
