I recently purchased the nutrafin natural plant system. I followed the instructs and utilized the activator/stabalizer packets that came with the kit. The instructions stated that co2 production should commence between 2-10 hrs. However, it took a full 2 days before the system pressurized and began producing co2. All worked well for about 3 more days and now production seems to have stopped. I can't figure out why. I've checked to ensure I dont have any leaks and had utilized table suger in the right proportion. My water should be fine as well.

Could there be an age related problem with the yeast (activator)? Perhaps the kit sat on the shelf for too long? What would the stabalizer be comprised of? I've read folks using potassium nitrate to control the reaction. I've also heard (read) about folks using baking soda. I would prefer to use my own mix, but thought I may as well use the stuff up that came with the kit.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

I bought one too and just as you thought I might as well use what they gave me first... but I was disapointed. I now upgreaded to soda bottles and use 1/4tsp yeast with 1.5 cups of sugar (no baking soda) and it filled almost to the top. This gives me great production for two weeks. If you still want to use the container they gave you that's fine but I would switch to your own store bought yeast.

When using those packets, it helps if you use warm water. My first pack never started but I knew my water was too cool when I put it in. On my second try I used a little bit of very warm water to melt the sugar then filled it up with luke warm water and added the packets. You don't want the water too hot or it will kill the yeast. My second attempt lasted about 4 weeks and I"m on my 3rd pack now. When this one runs out in a couuple weeks I'll mix up my own stuff.

Good luck!

just use yeast and water if the packets don't work. In the future instead of buying more expensive packets, use the yeast/water solution posted on this site.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I will switch to my own mix on the next go.

Interestingly enough since I originally posted this, the reactor has started producing again. Pretty much back to the original level. Weird. Its like it took a break for a few hours then resumed. Go figure.
