My pregnant molly just had about 25 babies. I have all of them in a net breeder. Should I put a little salt in with the babies? Oh yeah and every time a molly of mine has fry the tank gets a bad odor is this because of the stress on her?
Do more water changes to give the fry clean water. Why add salt? You don't need it. I am one for adding very little if any salt to a molly tank. In this situation and how it is usually used, it is just a cover up for more serious problems. Water changes would be a more productive thing to do.
This is one of the big myths that abound in our hobby, mollies are a freshwater fish that can tolerate mild brackish conditions and on rare occasions do so in the wild. they do not require salt, nor is it really good for them long term. they do like hard water, and salt simulates that by creating higher TDS (total dissolved solids) if you wish to simulate more natural conditions, use minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Otherwise I would avoid the salt unless treating for prescribed illnesses.
