just what does it mean to cycle a tank . like i have an idea but im not sure

Cycling is the process of developing bacteria so the bacteria can convert amonia(harmful to fish) into nitrites(less harmful),then nitrites into nitrates(even less harmful).Also part of cycling is for the ph,hardness,and other stuff like that to stabalize.Once this is all done,its safe to add fish.This is also call "maturation"

i thought it was that so my tank is cycled see i dont take care of the chemiicals but get other people to do it for me thanx for the info
