I thought I would put this up since suggestions are often made or people say they want to get this fish or that fish which comes out of South America. Take a look at this link and look down through the fish. Yes they are all wild caught....but that doesn't mean they don't get that large in a domestic environment because they most certainly will. These fish get large, and if you can't provide a suitable environment for them, in many cases 800gal or larger tanks, please do not purchase these fish. It will save you a huge headache, and you won't have to see the fish suffer in its too small enclosure.

Not a problem, all in the nature of informing people about what they will be getting into if they so choose to keep some of those fish. What starts out small can become pretty large with no time.

wow. . . make sure you see the picture of the red tailed cat. . . then print it and hand it out to your LFS!

Are the sturgeon you see in lfs stores.....are they the same sturgeon that gets like 20+ feet long and feeds on the bottom of large lakes ??

I saw some at a lfs in Florida when we were down there on vacation this summer...(if you can't take the fish with you...go visit someone else's :) ) They were a really cool looking little fish...but....GADS...a STURGEON of all things...that's even worse than those redtailed cats if they get as big as I think they do !

That's insane...The smallest sturgeon I can think of right now is the sterlet (sp?) and it gets to about 40" max, but even still, thats over three feet and not suited to any run of the mill aquarium.
