View Full Version : My crazy Crypt farm (pic)

Just thought I'd post and share a pic of the re-scaped tank. Once our camera recharges I'll see if I can get a better picture, this one's not very clear.
A while ago I realized that I was getting too busy to be trimming stems every week - it was getting very labour intensive to try and keep the tank looking decent and prevent the Hygro and Rotala from shading everything else. During the first week of June I moved all the Crypts from the 14g into the big tank, tossed all the stems (some are still living in the QT) and went Crypt crazy! The entire tank floor is nothing but Crypts, and they're settled in and growing well after about six weeks in the tank.
The only other types of plant are my sickly, horrid looking Java fern (mostly disintigrating leaves and about a zillion plantlets) and some Anubias which are finally coming into their own - higher PO4 seems to be keeping the green spot algae at bay and the new leaves look great.
The Crypts in the tank ATM are:
C. wendtii green
C. wendtii brown
C. wendtii 'Tropica'
C. undulata
C. willisii
C. willisii 'Lucens'
I'm hunting for C. balensae to give some height to the left side of the tank.
Feel free to comment, make suggestions, etc. Enjoy :)

Isn't she speeeeecccial!!!!:)
What a girl Blinky!!! Look at you.
And yes you really need some taller ones to break up the line.
Most of these will get taller than what you've got to grade up toward the back:
C. Albida
C. Cordata blassii
C. Undulata broadleaf (nice plant)
C. Wendti 'mi oya'
And of course the ever popular C. Balansae, which for me grows like paint drying.
If you buy it, get a bunch. With a lot of it you won't notice that each plant only grows one new leaf per decade:). Ugh!!!
Charlie, AKA Lowcoaster usually has nice stock of many of the above on Aqua Bid.

That is a very nice crypt farm Blinky, and there is nothing at all wrong with being a Crypt farmer. One of our best growers in the local plant group calls himself a Crypt farmer.

But I do agree w/Len that some taller background plants/Crypts would set off the "farm" quite well.
