How many cory cats?

I'm still waiting patiently through my cycle <sigh>, however, while waiting, I'm trying to decide what the next round of fish will be. I'm thinking cory cats b/c I think they are really neat and cute. I've read that they are schooling fish, so I'm assuming they'd like some friends. How many do you think I should get? And should they all be the same species or can I get different ones?
I have a 46 gallon with some live plants...

I'd get a school of the same species, preferably a larger school of smaller fish - for instance 5 or 6 dwarf or panda corys. They are happier in larger social groups.

I agree. Schooling fish seem much happier with 4 or more. I wouldn't go less then 4. All the same species.
