I need one that actually will suck up the HUGE pieces of doo-key that the fish in my tank let fly each evening. The current gravel vac that I have dosen't really do this for me. It sipons the water of the tank but the huge pieces of poop remain o the floor of the tank.

Have you tried using a Python? They have a refill/vac attachment for most sinks that actually pressurizes your vacumming, great stuff.

While I don't have a Python, I do have one of those hoses that attaches to the sink and sucks the water out. On the end of the tube that goes into the tank is a claw. I drag this claw through the gravel but it only picks up what can fit between the grill on the claw. The big poop, mainly from the channel and Pl*co cats remains. I was thinking of taking the claw part off since all of my fish are way too big to be sucked up into the suction.

I use 1" ID vinyl tubing to siphon water from my tanks into barrels. You'll be hard-pressed to find a fish turd that won't get sucked through it. Don't let it touch the substrate, though, b/c it'll suck sand and gravel right out of the tank as well (which comes in handy sometimes).

All you want to have on the end is an open tube.

That makes plenty of sense. My substrate consists of very large rocks and pebbles so I'm not concerned about any of it getting sucked up. It's tank cleaning night when I get home this evening so I'll give it a whirl then.
