first algae problem.. help!

my 29g marine has been up for about 5 months now and this past week or so this algae has been poppin up all over the place.. its just getting out of control and im not sure how to identify it

its like brown spots

please help asap

Let us know how you have the tank running? Filtration, waterflow, skimmer, water params....

everything like amm and such is 0

i have a pair of percula clowns, firefish goby, 5 turbo snails, a couple hermit crabs, and a skunk cleaner shrimp

only thing i can think of is the piece of 5lb. live rock i put in about 2 weeks ago or the new light i said about above i started using that around that time too.. thanks

Its gotta be the the lighting (make sure you turn off lights around 8 or 9pm and then turn them back on around 10 or so in the morning). And also make sure your not taking out too much water! And Make sure your aquarium is not near a window.And lastly, go easy on the feeding.

What kind of lighting were you using before? Is this a big step up? You may have been able to get away with slightly higher nutrient levels (NO3 and PO4 really at 0?) if you used to have less light.

Sunlight is not a problem for reef tanks. A lot of people propoagate corals in greenhouses or using skylights. Sunlight has a great spectrum for coral growth.
