i have some really small flying insects thats growing in my tank. they're really beginning to **** me off and i dont know how to get rid of them. they cant be more than 1/8th of an inch long, and have sort of a greenish hue. almost like aphids (sp?) with wings. anyone know how to kill them?

Do you have floating plants? These sound like greenfly. Careful with insecticides-- even the "safe" ones are extremely toxic to fish.

I could be wrong but ive had this happen to me once and ive seen it in other tanks also. If you have the kind of filter that hangs over the side of the tank (hanging filter i guess) and neglect to clean it apparently little flies and bugs start to spawn in and on the cartridge. My suggestion would be just to clean it well.

Throw in a couple of guppies or small tetras or something that stays near the top and they will eat them! Do you have plants near or at the top? I had this happen when my swords and apoons got to the surface so I trimmed them back a little and all was well again. Also, clean that filter as suggested.

i dont have any plants but i am running 2 hang on filters on it. i'll give it a clean and see how it improves. as with the insecticde, i wouldnt use it unless it came down to it. rather not want to star the cycle all over again. thanks for your help.
