I have a new XP3, this filter is great but I can not seem to get the air out of the filter. I have triied everthing they tell me in the book but nothing works. Can anyone help me? Also is there any fish that I can add to complete my tank something with bright colors would be great?

Did you try to shake the canister? When its set up, tilt it one way and then another. Try the get the air over the impeller so it sucks it up. If that doesn't work get a bucket and another person. Hold the filter over the bucket and open one clip until water rushes out. Its going be messy but sometimes its the only way.

For fish, maybe platies?

I tried opening it like that, it did work for a while but then I cleaned it and it came back so i guess I will have to do it all the time.
My son would like 2 angels do you think they will go well in my tank?

Is it just a little air around the top of the filter, or is it constantly sucking in new air and running it through the filter? Mine has a water line maybe about a centimeter of air visible from the outside of the filter, but water goes all the way to the bottom of the pump assembly. My assumption is that this is normal (seems to fit within the rules of science).

Yeah, it seems like the XP3 just keeps spitting out bubbles every few minutes.
I just take it as an added "feature" of aeration. :)
I dunno how to totally get rid of it in mines either.
I was thinking it's maybe impeller cavitation?

will the air hurt the impellor because it is running dry?

It sounds like a load air pump when it happens.
