I was thinking about starting up a 20-40 gallon new world cichlid tank that way I can take my male firemouth out of the 55 gallon oscar tank to give the oscar more room. I know oscars really need 75+ but i bought the oscar under the guidance that it could live in a 30 gallon tank full grown, and I fallen in love with it so I can't give it away, and anything over 55 gallons just wont fit in my house. What kind of cichlids could I put in with the firemouth in the 20-40 gallon? i was thinking along the lines of a female firemouth and some convicts, or something else, all ideas are welcome.

I would put a female firemouth and that's it in a 20g if you go fourty you could put the pair and maybe some bottom feeders like a pleco a smaller species not a "common" pleco.

if you go with the forty you san put 2 convicts in and 1 pleco or small catfish :D

I would just stick with a pair of firemouths in the 40g with a small pleco like a bristle nose.
A 20g is to small for even one firemouth.

hey krytan check out that stocking list on pictus5 profile of course after reading their comments hehehe.
