Following the advise you guys gave, I took the plunge and made the switch. My only regret is I started late in the day and ended up putting the fish/rock back in when it was still pretty murky. I know this wasn't good for the fish and the rock has fine sand all over it. As I remove bags, I'll clean the rock off. I also need to add much more rock so I can get rid of the canister filter. Here are some pics:

looks nice. What fish have you got in there appart from the clown, looked like some type of angel

Looks good! Glad it went well. I wouldn't worry about the murkiness--it happens in the ocean naturally, and while more than a few days could cause a problem, a day or 2 isn't a problem for them.

Lookin' good! I bet you're as happy to have that project done with as I was. I wouldn't worry about the murkiness either. I ended up putting all my stuff back in when I could barely see (it was 2 in the morning) and then re-arranging everything the next day when it had all settled out and I could see better. Everybody is still doing good, so I know it didn't hurt them.

Cool,

How about the placement of the bags? Should I have them directly in front of the powerhead? What about the depth of the sand? I bought 4 bags and only used 1.5.

It was easier than I thought it would be. Probably due to the much less rock I have.

Annularis Angel
Yellow Tang
Clarkii Clown
Hawkfish
Damsel
Sea Hare
Coral Banded Shrimp
Many snails and hermit crabs

The sand depth looks good to me. It's about what I ended up with. You may want to spread the bags around a little (in areas of good water flow) and have them laying right on top of the new sand rather than have them piled on top of each other.
