I would like to put a swordfish in with my 2 mickey platys, 1 blue gourami, and 2 female mollies. Would that be alright? Also I have read that swordfish can jump out of their aquaruims through the filter hole. Is this true? Also what swordfish is the hardiest?

I had a swordtail for about 1/2 day. He jumped out over night. I was shocked b/c the hole was really small but they are good escape artists. I was told they are fine with mollies and platys but not sure about gourami. Good luck

They do jump but as long as your aquarium is mostly covered... should be ok. Sword like a school. They create a higharchy system. Without a few other swordtails, he may harass other fish. How large in your tank? One male and 2-3 females is good. Swords require clean water so keep up on you water changes. They also like a larger, and preferably long aquarium. They are all really the same species just different color variations. Sometimes livebearers like guppies and formerly black mollies can be so inbred that the species becomes weaker. Swords have been ok and are still hardy. A green sword would be the hardiest because it is the natural color morph but there are many beautiful colors. One of the newest is the koi coloration, you should lok for them.

I had them when I was a kid. I think 2-3 jumped. I think it was females and males, not excluded to one sex.

If gouramis are like bettas and nip fins, I think that females would be your better choice.

ok. Thanks! I like the pinapple swordtails!

Same here, got a trio of orange neon swordtails and the male decided to feed himself to my cats. Very little escape room but on day 2 I still found him in the next room half eaten...
