I recently added a female eureka peacock to my 90 gallon african tank and it seems that all the fish in there are trying to mate with her.. Im pretty new to fish keeping and im still not sure what it looks like but when ive added other fish to the tank they dont behave like this. They seem to swim right in front of her turn their sides to her, flare up, and they seem to "vibrate". They dont try to nip at her like when ive added other fish they just seem to display to her. My electric yellow, red zebra, male eureka peacock, and my kadango are doing this. Their all about 2.5 inches... Are my fish trying to mate or is this just something else??

Depending on the sex of the fish, it either means "you're cute" or "im gonna jack you up" :o

Yep, that vibration is a sign they want to spawn. :)

I don't care who you are,now that's funny

:p: Funny but, true!

No, really though. It's hard to tell whether the fish are doing it for dominance or not and being that you just added the fish into the tank the other fish more than likely this is a sign of dominance, letting her know who's boss... oorrrr maybe you have some really frisky fish... :D :D

Hate to burst the bubble here, but its not always a sign of wanting to breed. Those same actions also go right along with being aggressive. Only the fish can determine what it actually means. It could mean I want to keep the crap outta you, or I want to pair with you.

Well i have 15 fish in the tank and whenever i added new fish they would do quick bursts at the new fish to try to scare it and then they would swim away.. if the new fish flinched then they would chase it. With the female peacock they slowly swim beside her and then go in front and vibrate, with the kadanga and male eureka peacock they change colour also, the nubilus's fins seem to get more orange but thats about it. The electric yellow and red zebra dont seem to be interested anymore. If for some reason they do breed would the babies be fine in the tank their in or would they be a quick snack for a kenyi or any other cichlid.. I do have a 5 gallon tank they can go in but theres no filter or even gravel in it yet, its just sitting under the stairs

If they do breed make sure the fry are not hybrids.. if they are i suggest leaving them in the tank for a good eatin :) typically, nobody really wants a hybrid... they might be hard to get rid of if you don't have room for them.

My electric yellows start to "kiss" or spin in circles if it's a confrontation.

When they spawned, the male would just vibrate next to the female.

I think they are pretty distinguishable from each other.

It actually depends on the fish. My fish vibrate when they want to spawn, but also vibrate for dominance so it's really hard to tell.
