hey i was just wandering if there's a way i can cut back on the smell of the aquarium. will it just involve water changes? it's just starting to reek up the place.
thanks guys

yeah i guess you could describe it as an earth/ground smell, but i also smell some kind of mildew or something. its not a pleasant smell at all. you can smell it pretty bad

ahh yes
Kas is right
That earthy smell has a tad of mildewish odor to it

damp moist basment..haha exactly!

excuse my stupidness, but carbon in the filter... yup thats jibberish to me. what exactly do you mean by that?

Activated carbon (carbon that has been superheated and has popped like popcorn) has millions of small holes that particles in the water stick too. These particles can be meds, oder, can colourings in the water. You can buy some under the media section at www.bigalsonline.com I suggest getting the some made my "MarineLabs" or something like that. You can add it to your filter by placing it between some filter floss that can also be bought at the site above. Take a long piece if filter floss and on one half put about 2 tsp spoons of carbon on. Then fold it it use some elastic bands to hold it all together. It may not look pretty but it should work. You will need to reload as in empty and put new carbon in, every 2 weeks to keep the carbon active.
