I have a castle in my 55 gallon tank, and the pleco and glass catfish REFUSE to leave it. The only way I can check to see if they are still alive is to sneak in the room at night and shine a flashlight in the tank. Is there any way to get these guys out for a little bit during the daytime? I didn't even think the glass catfish were nocturnal! If I bought my pleco a buddy would that help (I figure if anything they wouldnt want to be in the same hiding spot)?

Don't get another pleco, they tend fight as they get older with other plecos if the tanks not big enough. IMO just stick with the one you have. Plecos are nocturnal so even if you got another one, you'd just end up with 2 hiding plecos ;)
The glass catfish are schooling, so that's more than likely the reason for him hiding. I'd suggest getting at least 2 more and see if that makes him a little more confident (provided you have the space to add a few more)
Good Luck! Keep us updated! :thm:

Two is not a school. If you have six or more, the glass cats will be out in the open more, but still hanging much of the time in the most comfortable current in preferably lightly shaded areas (they love overhanging plants, such as the surface leaves of Val floating along the water surface - in plain sight, but "sheltered" especially overhead in their view).

Most plecos are nocturnal, period.
