substrate?

what type of substrate should i use for a convict/parrot tank.i was thinking sand and need to know what type of sand to use? and will a yellow/marble convict breed with a king kong parrot?please post pics 2 also on cons and parrots

Use whatever you want. Just dont use afriacan cichlid sand or crushed coral b/c it will raise the ph. I like sand the best, and its cheep, 4 bucks for 5 times more sand than you will need. Black gravel or river gravel, will also work. If you used pink gravel, I dont think the fish will mind, even though it wont look the best. I vote for sand. Standard sand works fine. Ive had quickcrete brand sand in my tank for 6 months now. I got the medium grain over fine so it wont stir up as easy, but its not too rough.
