Ive been reading in the post and the mayority of you guys just use the live sand instead of crushed coral.

So I was thinking....can I add the live sand to the crushed coral?

I have an eheim canister.....can i run that empty for water movement...or put something in there.

I have a 29 gl. tank with 4 big pieces of live rock.......10 average pieces of dead rock. A skilter filter which will be changed for a romora pro. The tank isnt cycled yet its in the middle of the cycle....

Any help will be appreciated

Thank you

You'd be better off removing the crushed coral and replacing it with 4-6 inches of sand. Wouldn't all have to be live sand--most people use about 90% play sand (small grain size is key), and then seed it with about 10% live sand.

If you try mixing the two, the sand will just settle down under the crushed coral and pack together. Crushed coral can cause some problems in the long run--it needs to be cleaned, similar to gravel in a FW system. With sand, you get critters to take care of it for you--worms, snails, stars, etc.
