I saw in the pictures that you posted in the "Power Head question for new UV Filter" thread that you have a Filstar running.

How do you like it? Overall, maintenance wise, and filtration wise?
What media are you using in it? Are the bins big enough to use say.. eheim media properly?

I am using an Ehiem 2028 on my 77 gallon right now. I love but it is a bloody expensive filter. If I had the money I would gladly buy a second. But......

The reason I ask is. My work tank (a 50 gallon) is using a series 1 old fluval 403. The old style round ones. I HATE the bloody thing.
It is such a nightmare to clean and use.

I have the chance to pick up either a Filstar xP3 for $84.60 American (roughly $140 Canadian) or a Filstar xP2 for $64.80 American (roughly $107 Canadian) through my friend who is a wholeseller.

Both of those filters would work nicely in the 50 gallon. I have until Feburary 20th to decide. So I figured I would ask you about them since you own one.

Thanks.

Get the XP-3 since you can adjust the return water flow..
I'm not sure if Ehiem media will fit. I'm using poly floss (regular stuff) for filtration and bio balls. There's also 4 sponges used in filtration. There's plenty of room for additional media like peat, zeolite, charcoal, etc... I also have a Fluval 404 and when it 'breaks' or if I 'drop' it... LOL... it will be replaced with another Filstar. It's priced right too.. Oh, I need to mention it has handles, unlike the Fluval 404.

I compared the filtration on both of them and found the Filstar filters much better. The return spray bar can be positioned several ways. It's a great filtration device! :)
