what community fish goes with a gourami?

I have 1 blue gourami that I love but it seems like I can have nothing in the tank besides, gouarmis, mollies, and platys. I don't want another gouarmi because they get big. I have 2 female mollies right now with the gouarmi and I am planning on getting a male molly. I have 2 platys also and want to get 2 more. I want a few other fish but don't know what to get! I tried putting my guppies in there but that was a mistake. I also want a small algae eater. Does anyone have any suggestions about what else I could put in there?oops..the tank is a 29 gallon. and I don't want any corys..sorry!
 
for a small Algae eater..nothing beats the Otto IMO. Shrimp are also good to have around.

As far as other things you can put in there? Any schooling fish will do fine...tetras, rasboras, glass catfish, barbs..you have lots of options
 
I have tetras and barbs with my gouramis and they are fine, That is not to say that yours is the same temperment as mine is. If you have am agressive gourami then all bets are off...
 
I have tetras, swordtails, barbs, corys, and red fin sharks.
They seem happy.

Anyway, now that my eyes are recovered -

Your tank is smaller i presume, because it is probably defending its territory, which in your case could be the entire tank. However, IMO, gouramis generally ignore all bottom feeders, as long as they ignore the gourami.
 
for algae eaters, I would have to agree with knashash. Ottos and/or shrimp work great in a 29g. For shrimp I would try amanos or cherry (if available).

As far as gourami-compatible fish, alot of fish fall into this catagory. So lets talk gourami-non-compatible fish. Bettas and sometimes other gouramis (depending on temperment).
