Hello,

Does anyone know the best way to clean the clear rubber tubing that is used for common canister filters ? I have some algae and debris build up in it and wish to get it squeaky clean, any ideas ? The problem I have is that the tubing is 5ft for each section so I don't have a tube brush that long to get in there. Any help or info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

James

Get a piece of bailing wire and wrap a small rag to one end of the wire and use it as a pull through. Not optimal but will work. Good luck

Thanks for the reply Jericho. Not to sound stupid but what is bailing wire ? Not sure what it is but I'm sure I can find some wire that could do the trick.

Thanks,

James

You can use the brush that you have and just tie a piece of string to it. Feed the string (or floral wire, which is green wire available at any craft store) through the tube.

Hope that helps a bit!

I'm sure one of the tips suggested will work. If not I have some sulfuric acid I can throw down the tube that will sure get rid of anything in there ... jk ;) .... Thanks again for the replies. I'm sure I'll be able to get it squeaky clean.

By the way bailing wire is wire that was used to bail hay. It is sold in rolls and is a small stiff but plyable solid core wire.

Fill the sink with hotwater, mix in Oxyclean. Fill tube with hotwater from sink, let soak for 30 minutes, run a blast of clean water through, should come out sparkling.
