The LFS sells some scats under the name silver scat. I think they are Selenotoca Multifasciatus but I'm not sure. They grow very quickly but they don't seem to surpass 4 inches. I have searched under both Selenotoca and Scatophagus and can't find much information about S. papuensis. One site seems to indicate it is a similar fish to S. Multifasciatus only smaller. Does anyone have any information on this fish?

Selenotaca multi gets a helluva lot larger than 4 inches. According to fishbase, 12+ inches, and to Neale, 8 inches. Cool fish, though. Neale's FAQ also has a link to the S.pap page at fishbase, and they apparently do stay smaller. . .

I know Selenotoca Multifasciatus get much larger than 4 inches and that is what prompts me to wonder if they aren't S. papuensis. They look like the pictures I have seen of S. Multifasciatus but I have never seen a picture of S. papuensis. If they are Multifasciatus then something must be stunting their growth. Given the rate at which they grow it seems unlikely anything is stunting their growth.
Thanks for the reply.
