I recently setup a new aquarium for my Green Terrors. My terrors can destroy absolutely anything, but they still like to cave some place to hide. I have tried lava rock, but they just push down. I have tried flat granite, but they busted that down and I lost a fish in the process. The best one was clay flower pots, the big male (Jaws) got pushing on them and a little one got trapped underneath, she was fine after I let her out. I started using PVC pipe in tanks for them cause it nearly float and when they start pulling it apart, it would slowly decend to the bottom. I used PVC because, well I'm an Engineer at a PVC extruder, but when I setup the new tank we didn't have any pipe around so I went to Home Depot. I then learnt of the retail price of our PVC pipe, not good, so I opted for ABS. From what I now about ABS, I didn't think it would be a problem. I know PVC can leach chloroform and chlorine gas as it decomposed, so I've always been pretty carefull. The only thing ABS could really do is leach carbon, thats what makes the pipe black and is the reason you shouldn't use it outside. Anywho, myself and another fish guy got to talking today and he said you shouldn't use ABS in a tank. I had never heard that before and I was wondering what have others heard. I know myself that I have seened big marine tanks piped with ABS
