ok..I don't know if this is allowed or not. I'm really sick at home and have nothing better to do. So I know I live in Norway but I'm still an American citizen. I STILL keep up on all that is happening in the USA. Well you can talk about whatever if it's not allowed.
no politics, no religion, nothing like that. I THINK they still allow weather dicussions, but I could be wrong.

"Please keep religious and political threads out of GCC (and AC for that matter) until we figure out what to do with them.
It looks like I need to define political and religious posts here.
The key word is debatability.
acceptable posts in the political range would be defined as one that may be a political joke or something of amusement such as: Bush was seen with his fly open or "did you hear the Al Gordon spelled potato with an e on the end?"
unacceptable posts would be of a debatable nature such as: a decision that was made by the senate committee and put up for ballot or "bush is the biggest PITA and is good for nothing". These threads would cause heavy debate and arguments in the end."
From the sticky about guidelines at the top of the forum.
Dale wrote that like 2 years ago, I guess he still ain't figured out what to do with them lol

Politics are fun...but there are probably better places to debate them than here.
"did you hear the Al Gordon spelled potato with an e on the end?"

You know, TKOS, you may be on to something there! He must be someone really special to be used in the example!
Actually it was George Bush Senior's Vice President Dan Quayle. Good old Danny Boy. Come on Chill get up to date on your US history ;) What are they teaching you in NFLD? :)
Poor Dan Quayle. He can't have been as dumb as he seemed but wow was he a bad speaker. Like a Yogi Berra caliber bad speaker.

Right. See I should know better than to comment on history or politics cause it's just not my thing. Sadly us Canadains ussualy know more about US history and politics than our own. Last year CBC ran a series to determine the greatest Canadain and Tommy Douglas won. Tommy Douglas was probably deserving of that honor but until I saw the show I never heard of him.
Pardon my ignorance I shall try to refrain from future error.
Oh and we have our own Danny boy here and he's a little more flamboyant than Dan Quayle. He had a heated arguement with Ottawa a little while ago and removed the Canadian flag from all Provincal Government buildings which caused a little bit of debate across the counrty. Flags are flying again now and all is well in the land.
Quayle wasn't controversial and didn't cause problems, he was just, well, stuuuuuuuupid when they gave him a mic. Very intelligent man, but he must have loved the taste of his foot in his mouth.
btw, who is Tommy Douglas?
Rock on Al Gordon!!! Great link Joe.
this thread is turnign into a real heated debate. Better watch out!!

Keifer Sutherland's grandfather.
Or more importantly, the reason we have free health care in this country.

You said you don't know what to do with political and religious talk well, I don't know one way or the other but over at http://www.bikeforums.net/ they have a section that is reserved just for that, with a special agreement before you enter it (and when you go in each time you have to type yes to that agreement each time), that basicly says you can talk about it, and debat in there. what is talked in that part of the fourum stays only in that part, and not attacks alowed.
I don't know if that is the right way or a wrong way, but it is just how another fourum does it.

The problem is that fights tend to turn nasty, and spill out into the other forums. The decision to limit toics in GCC was made quite some time ago, when we had to close the forum entirely due to problem threads that got out of hand.
Quite frankly, I'm baffled by why this is a problem. This is a fish forum. Why come here to debate politics? Talk about fish, get help, share funny things with people, but leave the heavy stuff 'at the door', so to speak.
Well I was not saying we need one, I was just responding to the statement "untill we know what we figure out what to do with them" so I just showed how one other place does it, I am perfectly happy with out them, but I was just putting the info out there.

When you start having disagreements on politics or religion, you can easily offend or be offended. If you really want to discuss an issue with certian people, you can PM or use an outside IM site. It would be a shame to loose the help of a knowlegable fishkeeper due to a grudge against thier viewpoints. I thin k the idea of a special forrum for debate is good in theory, but would be bad in practice.

I love the gcc forum and there have been some pretty heated debates in there. I see no reason why we should touch politics or religion at all, there's plenty of other stuff to disagree about. I would hate for someone knowledgable about fish to not help me in the gen freshwater section because I p***ed them off with my beliefs in the gcc section.
