Hi all. Lots of great information on here that I've been reading for a whlie, but this is my first post. I'm having some concerns with a new addition to my tank who seems to have an utter lack of appetite and was wondering if there may be any suggestions. Here's the situation and the history.
A few days ago I received an mail order supply of four fishes. The shipper made a mistake, and wound up sending me a Rainbow Shark (instead of the Rainbow Cichlid I'd ordered). This posed a problem for me as I already had an established Red-Tailed Shark in the tank. I decided to take a chance, though, to see what happens. And, of course, the Red-Tailed instantly started harassing the newly added Rainbow.
I quarantined the Red-Tail to keep the harassment to a minimum, then gave a friend of mine the choice of taking one or the other. He elected to take the the Red-Tailed shark, leaving me with the Rainbow.
The Rainbow has since regained his full coloration (he's a very dark grey with nice full red fins). He seems to be happily exploring the tank, and has found a "den" of sorts under a log. I've been watching, and none of his tank-mates are hassling him (it's a community aquarium).
However, the guy simply does not appear to be eating. I'm using flake food right now. Some of it left to float on the top, with a small amount pre-soaked to sink down the bottom for a loach. Occasionally the Rainbow will take a small bite of the flake food, but usually (not always) spits it back out.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
PS, If its relevant, the Rainbow is about 2 or 2.25 inches in length.
30 Gallon
3 Cardinal Tetras
Bousemani Rainbow
Gold Veil Angel
Striata Botio Loach
